The US History Bee, sponsored by The National History Bee and Bowl (NHBB), held its second annual National Championships on Friday, April 24 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. 194 students (102 Varsity, 92 Junior Varsity – representing a nearly 70% increase from last year) competed throughout 6 preliminary rounds, and several playoff rounds of competition. When it was over, though, in the Varsity, our champion was the same as our 2014 champion – the incomparable Bruce Lou of Saratoga High School in Saratoga, CA! Bruce was the leader in the preliminary standings, and also won both the National History Bee and National History Bowl titles during the weekend as well, becoming the first ever NHBB Triple Crown winner!
Our first ever Junior Varsity National Champion (in 2014, there was just one division) was John Peter Connor of Eastern Washington Homeschool. John has been near the top at numerous national NHBB tournaments over the past few years, so his victory is hard-earned and well-deserved as well. Further information on the tournament will be available shortly.
Thanks as well to our sponsor Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for their support of the US History Bee and thanks to everyone who competed, staffed, and assisted with our tournaments this year, both at the Regional level and the National Championships. Enjoy the “off-season” and we’ll see you in 2015-16!
Congratulations to the 2015 US History Bee National Champions Bruce Lou (Varsity – Saratoga HS, Saratoga, CA) and John Connor (JV – Eastern Washington Homeschool)!
