The United States History Bee held its 3rd annual National Championships on Friday, April 22 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA with approximately 81 Varsity and 97 Junior Varsity students competing. Congratulations to our new national champions: Cole Timmerwilke of Auburn High School in Rockford, IL in the Varsity Division and Jaya Alagar of Alagar Homeschool in Pittsburgh, PA in the Junior Varsity Division! Cole and Jaya took on a challenging field of some of the best history students from throughout the USA and emerged victorious, each thus winning free admission to the 2016 International History Olympiad in Honolulu, HI this July!
In the Varsity Division, David Kilbridge of Brighton High School, Brighton, NY finished second, and Luke Tierney of Hunter College High School, New York, NY finished third. In the Junior Varsity Division, last year’s champion, John Peter Connor of Eastern Washington Homeschool (WA) finished second, with Rohan Hedge of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (VA) finishing third. The 2016-17 National Qualifying Exams for the US History Bee will begin again in October, with the 2017 National Championships once again being held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott on Friday, April 21, 2017.
